Yuva Jyothi Care and Support Centre for Children on the Street
Located at Martin Nagar, Jaripatka, north of Nagpur city, the Yuva Jyothi Care and Support Centre is a home away from home for children who experience disadvantage. Over 600 children have accessed Yuva Jyothi since it opened in 2003. These children are predominantly from the street and railway platform. 38 children presently living at Yuva Jyothi are provided with constant care in an environment where they can interact with their peers and community elders.
Yuva Jyothi provides accommodation, food, clothing, hygiene facilities, health care, counseling, family mediation and reunion, access to education, non- formal educational programs including life skills programs, holiday programs, events and recreational activities, vocational guidance, livelihood opportunities and referral support.
Nirmal Jyothi Breaking the chain of beggary and rag picking
Located at Gittikhadan and initiated in 2006, this program provides opportunity for over 250 children to break the cycle of beggary. It provides hygiene and health programs, TB related support and health promotion, school work support and tuition, life skills training, recreational activities, library, kindergarten and playroom and supplementary nutrition, vocational training for young women in beauty therapy and tailoring.
Asha: education and capacity building of children from slum communities
Located at Hazaripahad and initiated in 2006, over 100 children are prepared for formal schooling annually through the provision of a resource centre, library and literacy teachers. The library has story books, books on general knowledge, history, spoken English, child care, personality development and hobbies. This program also provides life skills classes and summer classes for local children and young people.
Deepshika: education and capacity building of children from slum communities
Located at Tulsi Nagar, near the dumping yard in Lakkad Ganj zone of Nagpur city, the program was initiated in 2007. It provides education on personal and family hygiene, health care and life skills. The centre has library facilities and prompts children’s groups. Balwadi and toy centre which prepare preschool children for schooling.
CHILDLINE
CHILDLINE is India’s first 24 hour, toll free, emergency phone outreach service for children in need of care and protection linking them to long-term services for their care and rehabilitation. As CHILDLINE Support Organization ICID reaches out annually to over 7000 population including children through outreach, emergency case interventions, open house programs, children’s groups and network.
Manini: Sustainable development through livelihood interventions among urban poor women
The Manini program provides women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with the opportunity to create sustainable livelihoods. Over
100 women from slum and rural communities are engaged in activities that promote self-sustainability. The program includes motivational and sensitization meetings, self-help groups, capacity building training, entrepreneurship training, tailoring and embroidery training, cloth and imitation jewellery store.
Other Programs
ICID provides Educational Support such as uniforms, shoes, note books, school bags and stationary annually for over 180 children who come from economically disadvantaged families.
ICID organizes Summer Camps with the participation of over 300 children from slum communities with the opportunity to develop social skills, build self-esteem and confidence and promote creative expression through the facilitation of a variety Of recreational and educational activities.
ICID provides educational health and hygiene programs with focus on skill development for over 200 children within slum communities and selected schools.
Through Bal Manch, ICID provides over 120 children from slum communities to identify and address personal, family and community issues and learn to develop problem solving and decision making skills.
ICID organizes Health awareness and check-up camps for over 300 children from slum communities who undergo biomedical examinations and provided with health education, information and medications when necessary.
Through Grahini Training ICID provides over 150 young girls and women annually with essential information about health and hygiene, pubertal changes, child care, home care, HIV/AIDS and nutrition

The core area of work of ICID is the protection, promotion and advocacy of children’s rights. ICID strives to nurture healthy development of children and young people who do not have adequate care and protection. Our organization aims to build the skills and resilience of the children in challenging situations by supporting them to access equitable education, health care and other support services that promote their basic Rights in relation to child survival, protection, development and participation.
