The fundamental Constitution declares that the very purpose of the Order is to Preach Christ. Dominicans attempt to follow the “footsteps of the Savior as evangelical men speaking among themselves or their neighbors either with God or about God” (Primitive Constitutions of the Order of Preachers). Preaching is the first priority of the Indian Province. Owing to the sheer size of the country itinerant preaching is the most favoured mode of the preaching of the Indian Dominicans. Our friars preach Christ in a variety of settings like parishes, religious houses, schools, colleges, etc.
Satyagiri, Dominican Retreat Centre, Igatpuri (Maharashtra) is an initiative aimed at imparting the virtues of Dominican preaching. In addition to the regular retreats organized by our friars, Satyagiri also hosts retreats/prayer meetings/seminars organized by Christian groups.
Emmaus, Dominican Spirituality Centre in Sarihajan (Assam) is another centre that caters to the spiritual needs of the people of the region. The Centre organizes retreats for religious as well as lay faithful. Apart from the retreats, the regular weekly adorations for the people and a half-day monthly recollection for the religious sisters working in the Diocese of Diphu are organized.
To evangelize the internet and the logged-in generation hooked on to social media, the Province has floated the Dominican Media Mission. Media mission creates catholic material and propagates the same through YouTube, Whatsapp, etc. so that the gospel message reaches the digital world.
Preaching to the youth is another thrust area for the Province. Several of our friars are involved with the Jesus Youth movement in different roles including that of Chaplains for national level teams of Jesus Youth. We also promote the Dominican way of life and preaching through Dominican Youth and Dominican Laity established in different parts of the country.
